Obituary For Jane Tuzik Phillips

Jane T. Phillips, of Edina, passed away peacefully August 5, 2026, after a long journey with memory loss. Jane is survived by her husband of 65 years, Daniel Phillips; children, Anne “Pokey” Phillips and Patrick Phillips; grandchildren, Matthew, Molly, Kelly, Taylor, Grayson, Cooper, and Riley; youngest sister, Donna; and many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.

A celebration of her life will take place on her birthday, Oct. 14, 2026, at the Mendakota Country Club 2075 Mendakota Dr., Mendota Heights, 55120. Doors open at 4:30 pm, with Celebration of Life at 5:30 pm. Guests are encouraged to wear mom’s favorite color, blue—especially baby blue or sky blue.

RSVPs, livestream info, and those interested in sharing memories during the Celebration of Life are asked to reach out to Pokey at pokeyphillips@comcast.net.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Jane’s name to Home For Life (homeforlife.org). This charity, based in Stillwater, provides loving care for dogs and cats who are not good candidates for adoption. There are nearly 200 animals that live at the sanctuary. Home For Life gives its residents a quality life and not just a warehoused existence. Its mission is to show what’s possible: that animals, who couldn’t be adopted but who don’t deserve to die, can still live a great life if given that opportunity.

It is sad to say goodbye to my only remaining sister, but I’m smiling and can almost hear the laughter and joy of Janie being reunited in Heaven with our 2 older sisters, parents, grandparents, cousins and many relatives. We all loved a good party and they were usually loud! I remember fun visits in Hilton Head and here in NC- playing games, riding bikes etc. In our youthJanie and I would drive the pony cart down the dirt road at our summer home in NH, swim and laugh with friends at the town dock and go on double dates. I was lucky to have such wonderful sisters and Janie will be remembered with love and happy memories. Her sister, Donna Fernald

Jane hired me to be the Blake Middle School counselor where I stayed for 25 years. When she told me she was leaving Blake, I didn’t talk to her for two weeks! I was heart broken. Jane hired me, mentored me, trusted me, supported me in every way. I will never forget the marvelous Christmas gatherings at her house with all the MS faculty. She was steadfast the MS weathered storms and adventure. As I read of her death, I am again, deeply heart broken and also deeply grateful for the 25 years she gave me where I ultimately retired. I remember that spunky lady, working together with Jane (there were three of us with that name) and trying to keep up. She had a definite sparkle and joy about her. May you all find joy in your memories of her. Jane Bartow, Breck
